Cleo completed her final search on 10th June and will now join her much missed K9 2012 classmates Red & Sky and best friend Billy. She was handled by Neil Day, a Flathead K9 Foundation handler with North Valley Rescue. This memorial fund has been set up in her name. Below is Cleo’s obituary.
In her last moments she was surrounded by love, at home in her bed enjoying some peanut butter.
Neil and Tracy had a fantastic 15 years with Little Miss Pocket Rocket Cleo. Cleo has always been such a loving and kind companion, loving all people and all dogs. She really was a great dog!
From the beginning Neil and Cleo had the best friendship and later became a certified K9 team in 2012 (through the National Search and Rescue Dog Association).
Neil and Cleo went on over 100 searches, reuniting the missing with their families & loved ones. She loved her job till she retired in 2018. Neil then did some fun scent work with her which she enjoyed and spent many an hour in our classroom showing the novices how it’s done!
Cleo also was a great stooge dog, working with Neil as a team- she was always calm around other dogs. Cleo was the best sidekick to Neil on all their adventures.
Cleo has been on many adventures in her lifetime. She summited the highest peak in Germany (Zugspitze) and many more peaks in Germany, Austria, Scotland, Wales and England. Her best buddy Billy always by her side. She loved swimming with a passion and would swim for hours in her younger years. She swan in the very cold mountain rivers and lakes. She loved to chase a tennis ball.
Cleo (when younger) LOVED going mountain biking with Neil. She was so fast!
Little Cleo loved her food (as any Labrador does) and has managed to steal some tasty items over the years!! She loved to jump into water troughs to cool down.
Sleeping in front the fire place was also a favorite activity!
Cleo was a great sofa snuggle companion, loved car rides and spending time with her human sisters Megan & Emi. She was also a great foot warmer to Tracy!
She was so very much loved and such a big part of our family. She will now join her best friend Billy and all her friends who have passed before her.
