Clean Air Task Force

According to the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, to limit global warming to 1.5°C, greenhouse gas emissions must peak before 2025 at the latest and decline 43% by 2030. Current climate policies will reduce emissions, but not enough to keep temperature rise below 2°C.

As individuals, we have an important role to play in mitigating climate change. The decisions we make regarding how we travel, the food we eat, who we vote for and what we buy all have an impact. However, individual action alone isn't enough - we also need ambitious policies and technological innovation.

Clean Air Task Force is at the cutting edge of both policy and technology solutions. Thanks to the generosity of individual and company donors, they are able to continue their important work developing and advocating for policies and novel technologies that reduce emissions.

Independently rated as one of the most effective climate charities in the world.

Clean Air Task Force is recommended as one of the most effective charities to combat climate change by world leading climate charity evaluators Giving Green and Founders Pledge. Founders Pledge has recommended CATF as their top climate charity since 2018 and Giving Green has recommended CATF as a top charity since 2020.

Founders Pledge estimates that every euro donated to CATF reduces more than one tonne of CO2 [1]. They have calculated that CATF's work to date has helped avoid approximately 26,000 million tonnes of CO2 equivalents (CO2e). These measures have also led to reduced emissions of other pollutants, preventing an estimated 26,000 premature deaths from air pollution.

The impact of your donations to CATF on the climate

  • Donate €50: Avoid 50 tons of carbon
(equivalent to the growth of 2,500 trees for 1 year) [2]

  • Donate €200: Avoid 200 tons of carbon emissions
(equivalent to avoiding 125 transatlantic flights) [3]

  • Donate €500: Avoid 500 tons of carbon emissions
(equivalent to 208 people going car-free for 1 year) [4]

[2] What is one ton of CO2? (Climate Neutral Group) [Accessed 11/07/2024].
1 ton per 50 trees is an approximation that can vary according to location, type of tree, weather conditions, etc. According to some calculations, 15 to 83 trees are needed to capture an average of 1 ton of CO2 per year. Trees grow faster in the tropics, so it takes fewer trees to store a tonne of CO2 than in the northern hemisphere. In our donation calculation, we have chosen an average of 50 trees per year to capture 1 tonne of CO2.

Each transatlantic flight emits an average of 1.6 tons of CO2 equivalent.

Going car-free for a year reduces CO2 equivalent emissions by 2.4 tonnes.
