In remote regions of Kenya children are being forced into child labor, sold as child brides, and exploited for sex. L Squared has found a way to combat this through its Child Protection Program. By keeping a child in school they are safeguarded from these threats and empowered to thrive.

What's stopping them from staying in school? Great question! Small and simple things. Most families can't afford basic school fees, clothing, food, female hygiene products and materials needed to stay in school. This is why L Squared has pioneered its child sponsorship opportunities. By sponsoring a child, L Squared will be able to provide the items needed along with school fees. L Squared's model is not to pay the schools directly and instead has agreements to cover sponsored children's school fees through its projects. By creating renewable resources at schools, the large-scale problems for the community are solved in the process of helping these precious children thrive.

What a sponsored child gets:

1. Boarding Fees Waived - Our partner boarding schools have agreed to waive sponsored children's boarding fees as long as L Squared has active projects in excess of the total sponsored children's boarding fee costs. This alleviates the burden off of the community and safeguards the children from drop out. Many at risk children find themselves as day laborers when money is tight for their family. By covering all boarding school costs the family agrees to allow the child to remain in school with no work expectations.

2. Food - The largest cost of the boarding program is feeding the children on a daily basis. Kenya has three semesters. The child will receive three meals daily when school is in session.

3. Clean Water Access - Most people in the communities we work in do not have clean water access. L Squared has developed clean water systems to provide children with clean water daily. A portion of your donation will be used to upkeep and develop water systems at your child's school through L Squared's Tova Water project.
4. Needed Materials and Supplies - L Squared will provide students with the following materials as needed: beds, mattresses, shoes, slippers, towels, buckets and/or basins, plates, cups, soaps, washing detergent, tooth brushes, toothpaste, dewormers, and tissues. L Squared will provide the needed food supplies to maintain said boarding program. This is to be first used from the active Killian Fields and Farms Project and in last resort purchased by the L Squared team or approved service providers.
*Items will be issued and the child admitted to the dorm as each child is individually sponsored. L Squared's commitment to provide these services is contingent upon said children being sponsored.
5. Christmas Present - This gift will be given to the children's family. Most likely food or a desperate need, this promotes the child's independence and encourages that they belong in their village.
6. Birthday Gift - We believe every child should feel loved and seen on their special day. A birthday present is a perfect way to do that on an annual basis. Gifts will usually be tailored to the child's interests.

7. Precious Pads - If your sponsored child is a girl, she will receive a set of ten reusable menstrual pads from L Squared's Precious Pads Project. These pads are hand made and last from 5-8+ years when hand washed.
