Senior Forest Restoration Scientist, Susan Cook, of The Nature Conservancy stated “…the greater the footprint of new forest, the greater the amount of carbon dioxide we can pull from the atmosphere.”
Since the Carbon Forestry’s inception in 2021, it has been on a mission to mitigate atmospheric carbon through reforestation and forestry management efforts. Specifically, our mission takes a multi-prong approach including sequestration and fostering ecological diversity. While removing carbon is our main objective, our efforts will also improve wildlife habitat and watershed management, and long-term stabilization of the biosphere.
To date, we have acquired our first 71 acres and commenced both tree planting and woodlot management, prepared a second site of 89 acres for Spring 2023 planting, and continue to seek additional sites. That equates to over 17,500 trees planted! We have been able to achieve this through a model where real estate projects will help underwrite some of the costs.
Addressing the carbon crisis will take time, but it is vital we preserve and expand upon the resources trees and forests provide including carbon removal, sustenance, and survival for generations to come.
