Caramelo has had an old injury to his left hind hoof, which caused him recurrent lameness and abscessing.
After various surgeries with only slight improvement, it was decided that he needed to go to the equine hospital in Cordoba for further investigation.
There the affected area was opened up and a displaced piece of chorium - which generates the hoof wall - was removed.
The growth from this chunk of chorium was pushing against the bone and caused a restriction of the blood flow.
Now Caramelo is recovering well and we are hopeful that he will be pain-free in the future.
The cost of his operation, rehabilitation, and all the transport involved is far beyond our normal running costs and we therefore need to raise these funds.
Caramelo is only 8 years old and has a lovely temperament, so he deserves the extra effort in the hopes that he can live a normal life.
