Once home to the cowboys of the Dangberg Ranch, the bunkhouse is an integral part of the history of the Dangberg Home Ranch. Right now, the building is unsafe to enter. We are currently in Phase 2 of a three-phase project.
Phase 2 will include: Commission construction documents necessary for stabilizing the building and rehabilitating the inside; Stabilize the original stacked field stone foundation; Attach the building to the foundation, making it safe for entry. Total cost: $197,656 (a portion to be covered by grant funding).
Phase 3 will include: Restore the front rooms, creating an interpretive space showing how the cowboys lived; Rehabilitate the back rooms, creating office space for staff and a dedicated research station; Install climate controls (HVAC) in the attic, creating appropriate collection storage for the archives and a selection of the artifacts in the collection. Total cost: unknown at present, but estimated to be close to $100,000.
