The Oromo Student Union (OSU) at the University of Minnesota is launching the OSU Bula Wayessa Afaan Oromo Scholarship to support students who are committed to learning and preserving our language while strengthening our community.
Afaan Oromo is more than a language—it is a connection to our history, identity, and culture. Although the University of Minnesota offers an Afaan Oromo language course, it is currently at risk of being canceled due to low enrollment. This scholarship is designed to encourage more students to enroll in the course while making language learning accessible, engaging, and rewarding.
Scholarship applicants can qualify by enrolling in the University's Afaan Oromo course and by actively participating in Afaan Oromo language and cultural events hosted by OSU. Throughout the year, OSU will organize interactive events featuring language games, conversation circles, cultural activities, and opportunities for students to practice speaking Afaan Oromo in a fun, welcoming, and supportive environment. These events will help students build confidence, connect with peers, and develop a stronger sense of community.
Every donation directly supports student scholarships and helps us expand language-learning opportunities for future generations. By investing in this initiative, you are helping preserve Afaan Oromo, empowering students to embrace their heritage, and ensuring that Oromo language and culture continue to thrive on campus.
Together, we can inspire more students to learn Afaan Oromo, strengthen our community, and preserve our language for generations to come.
Thank you for supporting the Oromo Student Union and the future of Afaan Oromo.
