First Congregational Church of Claridon Building Fund

“They received from Moses all the offerings the Israelites had brought to carry out the work of constructing the sanctuary. And the people continued to bring freewill offerings morning after morning.”

(Exodus 36:3)

This scripture comes from the account of constructing a tabernacle that would house the tablets of the Ten Commandments. The people were generous in giving - so much that workers had to leave their work to report to Moses that the people were bringing more than enough for carrying out the work the Lord has commanded.

There never was a question that we as a congregation would find a way to restore our sanctuary. Insurance money will get us started, but will not be enough to cover all the expenses.

Prayerfully consider making a gift to our building fund, to help us reach our goal of restoring our sanctuary to its original beauty.

For many years, our church has had a strong community presence and a faithful congregation serving God and reaching out to others.

In the last 10 years, we have supported and/or housed:

  • Claridon Community Helps program serving children and families lunch, along with a monthly dinner on Tuesday nights for folks needing a healthy meal
  • The building of the Red Tulip House which serves women who are on the road to recovery from addiction
  • Community support through CROP walk, Heifer Project, Next Step, Geauga Veterans, WomenSafe and others
  • Sponsor a family for Thanksgiving and Christmas through Geauga Jobs and Family Services

On June 10, the sanctuary of our church building had a ceiling collapse which has left our sanctuary unusable until repairs can be made. The church was built in 1831, and the collapse was a result of old materials giving way.  No one was hurt during the collapse, which was a blessing. We have been holding services on every Sunday since this has happened, either outside or in the Claridon Administrative Building, where they have generously allowed us to meet.

This church has been named on the National Register of Historic Buildings, and we are committed to rebuilding the sanctuary. We as a congregation will be here to serve God and the community, but we need help!  Won't you consider a donation to Claridon Congregational Church to our Building Fund?  Any donation amount would be a blessing to our church and the community.  Here are the ways you can donate: send in your donation, donate online through our website, claridoncongregational.com, or sponsor an event to support the rebuild. For more information, you may contact the church at 440 635-1467.

Thank you to those who have already donated to our Building Fund!
