Our Lake Braddock Bruins Athletics tradition of excellence is now 50 years strong! In these 50 years of existence Bruin teams have won 312 District titles, 140 Regional crowns, and 56 Virginia State Championships!
In one way or another, each of us in the Lake Braddock school community has contributed to our ever-growing tradition of success! One thing, however, that is often not understood is this: our athletic programs receive no funding directly from Fairfax County Public Schools. Our coaches and athletic staff are paid by the school and of course we use the fields and facilities, after that money needs to be generated to fund our teams. Uniforms, equipment, goals, mats, netting systems, backstops, helmets, hurdles, training room supplies, and more need to be bought to make our Lake Braddock programs run.
To generate funds, the Lake Braddock Athletic Department charges admission to regular season games (post season gate fees are sent to league offices) and the Lake Braddock Athletic Booster Club raises additional money through booster memberships, sponsorships, spiritwear sales, concession sales, and general fundraising like the Day of Giving Campaign. Individual teams also raise their own funds each season to cover things like team meals, special travel events, extra game jerseys, warmups, or other items of their choosing.
Last year LBABC held a Day of Giving where the proceeds were dedicated to beautification projects on the athletic campus. We are proud that the over $2,500 raised that day went towards installing stadium flags at each of the three outdoor stadiums as well as new light pole banners. This fall the school built on the beautification trend and installed beautiful new wind screens in the main stadium and at the main stair case officially establishing “THE HILL”.
This year, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Lake Braddock’s opening, the athletic department officially established the Lake Braddock Athletic Hall of Fame. The inaugural class of 50 has been announced and plans are in motion in the gym hallway to house the Hall of Fame. Be on the lookout for new murals and special “touches” in the coming months!
In the past year, Lake Braddock earned a gymnastics State Championship, the first ever District Championship for Boys Lacrosse, and Regional titles for boys cross country, girls soccer, and softball. The Bruins celebrated an epic championship night in May at the Patriot District Jamboree held at South County bringing home District Championships in softball, baseball, and girls soccer all on the same night! Now after this past weekend, we can add a Region Football championship and look forward to more in the coming weeks!
It is truly a great time to be a Bruin, and with so much momentum, it’s an even better time to support Lake Braddock Athletics!
This Day of Giving, Tuesday, November 28th, Lake Braddock Athletic Booster Club is offering the opportunity to lend your support directly to the individual team of your choice. Donations through the LBABC Day of Giving 2023 will be directed to the teams for use by them according to the wishes of the team, coach, and DSA. Simply go to our donation site hosted with Donor Box, click DONATE, fill out the necessary info and select the team you wish to receive your generous donation!
Donations are also being accepted to support the needs of our athletic training room run by the awesome Miss K! This is a special place where our student athletes receive rehab and injury prevention measures and Miss K is always looking to add new equipment to keep our kids safe. Additionally, LBABC distributes over $6,000 in scholarships, so we are offering an option to help support our dedicated Bruins going off to college. If you would like to donate towards the new Athletic Hall of Fame buildout, we also have an option for that!
No matter how you choose to direct your donation this season, know that it is greatly appreciated and that it will be put to good use in continuing the proud winning tradition of the Lake Braddock Bruins!
Lets go… Bruins!
