The new Peatland Retreat Wing at Gomde UK is steadily taking shape: ten self-contained studios designed to offer quiet, supportive space for personal retreat.
Each room includes a private bathroom, small kitchenette, and a simple, beautiful environment for rest, reflection, and deepening practice — all surrounded by nature and the wide open skies of Lindholme Hall Estate.
Now, as this dedicated wing nears completion, we invite you to help bring it fully to life through our Book to Build campaign.
With a £700 suggested donation, you can reserve a 7-night personal retreat in one of our peaceful, purpose-built studios — and be among the very first to experience the Peatland Retreat Wing you helped bring to life.
The new retreat wing is due for completion in 2026. From the moment the rooms are ready, you’ll have two full years to book a personal retreat — for yourself or a loved one.
Why This Project Matters
—
In a world of constant motion, distraction, and burnout, spaces for meaningful solitude and inner clarity are rare — and deeply needed.
Inspired by the guidance of our spiritual director and revered Tibetan Buddhist master, Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche, we are creating a place rooted in Buddhist tradition — but welcoming to anyone seeking time for meditation, study, and personal renewal.
The Peatland Retreat Wing is part of a long-term vision for Gomde UK as a living Dharma centre — Thubten Chökor Ling. Guided by Rinpoche’s aspiration and supported by our growing community, we are building not just facilities, but a supportive home for retreat, learning, and spiritual growth — where monastics, lay practitioners, and visitors come together to cultivate wisdom, compassion, and transformation.
This sanctuary will provide:
- A peaceful refuge for solitary retreat and deep contemplation
- A conducive setting for rest, meditation, and spiritual insight
- A lasting home for clarity, inner growth, and collective wellbeing — for generations to come

Book to Build: How Your Gift Helps

With your £700 contribution, you will:
- Reserve a 7-day personal retreat in one of our new studios
- Be among the first to stay once the retreat wing opens in 2026
- Have two full years to book your retreat from the time of opening
- Have the option to gift your stay to a friend, loved one, or fellow practitioner
- Directly support the construction and completion of this peaceful sanctuary
Whether you stay for the full week or just a few days, the space is yours to shape — and your contribution helps make this sanctuary available to others for years to come.
Where We Are Now — Progress & Community
—
When the Peatland Retreat Wing was first envisioned, the projected cost of labour and materials stood at £375,000. But in 2024, something remarkable happened.
Thanks to the extraordinary generosity and skills of our community, the project was reimagined as a community build. Volunteers offered their time and expertise, allowing every donated pound to go much further than expected.
As a result, the first £70,000 raised enabled us to:
- Complete all planning and design
- Carry out full groundwork and foundations
- Construct the entire structural frame of the retreat wing
We are now entering Phase 2: enclosing the building — installing the roof, windows, and cladding, and preparing for interior fit-out.
Our next goal: raise another £70,000 to complete this phase and bring the retreat wing one step closer to welcoming its first retreatants.
Every donation builds more than walls — it helps shape a lasting space for transformation, clarity, and peace.
Built with Care for the Future
—
This project is designed not just for today, but with future generations in mind. The retreat wing includes:
- High-performance insulation
- Renewable solar energy and low-carbon, self-heating and cooling systems
- A sustainable, self-sufficient design that’s kind to both community and environment
