Goal

The Southeast CDC sponsors the operation of the Baltimore Bike Experience weekly community bike shop for youth and adults to learn bicycle repair, and participate in group rides around Southeast Baltimore neighborhoods.

BBX creates a holistic learning environment where the bicycle becomes the vehicle for self-empowerment, expression, and positive relationship building. BBX has resulted in job placements, improved school attendance and teacher-student relationships, and providing youth with a sense of community and purpose. Our goals are to:

  1. Cultivate an inclusive, positive, safe, fun and friendly environment for all participants.

  2. Teach bicycle terminology, repair, tools, and skills.

  3. Practice proper bicycle riding techniques and traffic riding.

  4. Share and educate the public about what we do through neighborhood rides and digital media.

In 2022, Southeast CDC renovated a former gas station and auto service shop into a community workshop to serve the Baltimore Bike Experience program and community partners. The new shop is located at 2912 Pulaski Highway in the Ellwood Park neighborhood. By relocating the workshop, BBX will double its workshop space and increase programming days from one day to three days per week.

Your donation will help support the program’s operations - we’ll purchase tools and materials, food for our community gatherings, and keep the lights on!
