Summary

The goal of this fundraiser is to support the TCCC-based training of Ukrainian Combat Lifesavers and to create a cadre of Ukrainian trainers who can then train other Ukrainians on these lifesaving skills and techniques and also provide them with medical supplies to help save more lives.

The Problem:

As Ukraine responded to full-scale war by rapidly expanding its armed forces, training on combat medicine has unfortunately not modernized as quickly as other aspects of training have. A universal standard of care does not yet exist, and the majority of Ukrainian troops do not have NATO standard Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) training or an equivalent provided to them before they are thrown into combat.

In addition, the war in Ukraine has highlighted gaps in the TCCC curriculum, which was designed based on NATO capabilities in counterinsurgencies in the Global War on Terror, such as air superiority allowing for helicopter evacuation of casualties. Unfortunately, in Ukraine, evacuation from the frontlines is not done by medevac helicopter but often in a civilian vehicle or ambulance, which results in much longer times between injury and treatment at stabilization points.

The Solution:

We aim to provide widespread training utilizing the TCCC curriculum, supplemented with feedback detailing the specific challenges and experiences of frontline medical personnel in Ukraine.

We believe in empowering Ukrainians to conduct this training independently rather than relying on foreign instructors (which can introduce language and cultural barriers).

Program:

Our program is designed to train the trainers by putting Ukrainian personnel through a training course in TCCC. The trainees who display the most aptitude are invited to return as assistant instructors conducting training under professional supervision, enabling them to become full-fledged trainers who are both competent and experienced in training TCCC techniques to other Ukrainians.

Method:

This method will allow us to develop a cadre of trained Ukrainian instructors who can multiply TCCC instruction across Ukraine, boosting the standard of combat casualty care and ultimately saving lives. We intend to scale our approach with more trainers training more students in multiple locations to save as many lives as possible through more widespread access to TCCC-based medical knowledge.

Your donations help cover the cost of instructional material and instructors and provide medical gear for the trainees upon graduation.
