Every day, marine debris washes up on our shores, polluting beaches and threatening the delicate ecosystems sea turtles call home. The Gulf of Guinea, including Ghana’s stunning coastline, is one of the most critical nesting sites for sea turtles. It’s time to take action together to keep our beaches clean and our oceans healthy.
Our Mission
This campaign focuses on protecting sea turtles and preserving our marine environment through a series of impactful initiatives:
1. Organize Beach Clean-ups: Mobilize local communities and volunteers to remove marine debris from turtle nesting beaches.
2. Data Collection on Marine Litter: Document and analyze types of litter to inform policies and solutions for waste management.
3. Expand Waste and Data Collection: Extend our efforts beyond Ghana to other countries in the Gulf of Guinea, fostering regional collaboration.
4. Awareness-Raising Activities: Develop tools and programs to educate youth about marine conservation and the importance of protecting sea turtles.
5. Boost Local Livelihoods: Support fishing communities by creating alternative, sustainable income sources.
6. Promote Proper Waste Management: Implement community-based systems to manage waste effectively and reduce pollution.
Why It Matters
Marine debris not only threatens sea turtles but also impacts the livelihoods of coastal communities and the health of our oceans. By cleaning beaches and promoting conservation, we can create a safe environment for nesting turtles and a cleaner, healthier coastline for everyone.
