2023 A-VOYCE in the Summer

This Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month, support ACDC's free A-VOYCE programming for Boston-area high school students!

Join us in creating vibrant summer experiences for our young people!

Through the A-VOYCE program, Asian Community Development Corporation (ACDC)'s summer programming for youth provides opportunities for Boston-area youth to learn Asian American history, reflect on their identities with their peers, and organize a summer film festival FREE to the community.

Our two flagship summer youth programs embody this year's theme of "Health & Wellness for Youth." Young people in our community will learn about and get experience promoting health & wellness on the individual, community, and structural level.

Summer Leadership Academy (SLA) is a free, six-week summer leadership program for high school-aged youth. The program offers cohort-style, project-based learning, guest speakers, and cultural enrichment field trips to explore ways to take care of themselves and their community.

If you're a current or incoming high school student and want to join the program, click here!

The Films at the Gate Festival is an annual ACDC summer tradition to organize a free outdoor theater experience for the Chinatown community. Since 2013, A-VOYCE youth have produced and run the event with support from ACDC staff to promote open space usage and shared, public experiences in Chinatown.

Your generous donations* will help fund:

- Summer food program for 15 high school-aged youth and two college interns.

- Cultural enrichment field trips such as Spectacle Island and the MassArt Art Museum.

- A three-day film festival in August featuring Chinese-language Kung Fu films AND local performances.

- Guest speaker and teaching artist honorariums.

*If you would like to contribute in-kind donations (such as, restaurant vouchers, museum tickets, art supplies), please contact [email protected].

More about us:

ACDC invests in the people and the places they call home. We work in underserved and immigrant Asian American communities in the Greater Boston area to create and preserve affordable, sustainable, and healthy neighborhoods. Our youth program, A-VOYCE, runs enriching summer and school-year cycle programs for high school youth.

Summer Leadership Academy 2023 runs from July 5th through August 11th and meets three days a week for four hours per day. The program will bring in guest speakers, artists, and go on field trips throughout the program. We also provide lunch stipends for participants for every day of the program.

Since 2006, Films at the Gate has been a grassroots event attracting over 700 attendees annually. The festival revives the tradition of Chinatown movie houses. Every contribution counts whether you are a kung fu film fan, love supporting the Chinatown community, or want to support our youth who run this annual event.
