Goal

Volunteer QTNB, WOC & friends sewing masks for frontline and vulnerable communities.

We are a group of self-sufficient volunteers giving our time, talent, materials and labor to sew, ship and deliver fabric masks to people who need them most. We help each other by sharing materials, patterns, sewing advice and moral support.

Who do we make masks for?

We focus our efforts on frontline essential workers with an emphasis on MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS and those with budget constraints that make it difficult to purchase masks. We want our masks on the frontline as much as possible (hospitals, medical workers and essential workers in public spaces). We also support vulnerable communities with masks and equipment.

Can people make a general donation to the group?

YES! Art2Action is now the fiscal sponsor for the Auntie Sewing Squad, so your donation is tax-deductible! Anyone who wants to support the Squad's efforts can donate to a general fund that we use to purchase materials (fabric, thread, elastic) in bulk and to ship large batches of masks to frontline workers and vulnerable communities. We have already shipped masks all over the country. We will keep making masks and sending out materials until we run out of money. So keep donating, so we can keep providing masks to the people who need them most!

What's the history of this group?

The Auntie Sewing Squad began on March 24, 2020 as a singular effort by artist Kristina Wong (in Los Angeles) who started making masks in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic and needed some support in creating masks and increasing awareness. Kristina started taking donations to cover postage only and making masks for free. The membership for this group has exploded, as has the need for PPE and masks in our communities. In order to sustain the efficiency of this group and effectively get masks to frontline workers, Kristina is now empowering everyone in the group to be more self-sufficient and use this group as a resource and supportive community more than a single-source provider of masks. Kristina uses all funds raised to purchase supplies in bulk and work with local fabric cutters to help our volunteers get pre-cut masks that can be assembled more quickly.

On May 14, 2020, Art2Action became the non-profit fiscal sponsor for the Auntie Sewing Squad. Art2Action covers and waives all sponsorship fees for the Squad, so every penny you donate goes directly to the great work they are doing. Your contributions really make a difference to those who need it most!
