Arefin was first elected to the Richardson City Council in 2021. Prior to his service, he served on the Richardson Zoning Board of Adjustments, Complete Census Committee, Building & Standard Commission and the Highland Terrace Neighborhood Association. He graduated from Leadership Richardson, Richardson Citizen Police Academy and was the former President of IANT. Arefin has a Masters in Civil Engineering, a Licensed Professional Engineer, certified floodplain manager and is a local small engineering business owner.
