Arefin was first elected to the Richardson City Council in 2021, and has served as Mayor Pro Tem during the 2023-2025 term. Prior to his elected service, he was appointed to the Richardson Zoning Board of Adjustments, Complete Census Committee, Building & Standard Commission. Arefin was actively involved with the Highland Terrace Neighborhood Association and graduated from Leadership Richardson, Richardson Citizen Police Academy and was the former President of IANT. Arefin has a Masters in Civil Engineering, a Licensed Professional Engineer, certified floodplain manager and is a local small engineering business owner.
