An artist-run organization, ANIKAYA's mission is to break down perceived barriers between people, cultures, and art forms. Our work is both global and hyper-local with programming this year in Somerville, Cambridge and the Boston area and in Palestine, Botswana, Mali, South Africa, Mozambique and more.
Our work questions the boundaries that we imagine between ourselves, and seeks to break down these imagined walls through an embodied practice of radical empathy.
Reaching our $15,000 end-of-year goal will enable us to continue expanding the following initiatives:
- Area of greatest need operates as a general fund that can be drawn from as urgent opportunities arise.
- Boston-based Programming such as the recent Waterfall Workshops, Migrations and youth programming.
- Conference of the Birds, a multi-media movement theater work inspired by the epic poem of Farid Ud din Attar, embodying modern-day stories of migration. Conference of the Birds recently toured in Cape Town, South Africa & in Mozambique. Upcoming tours in 2024 will bring the Birds to Tunisia, India and Brazil
