AMGA BIPOC Scholarship Fund

In 2020, the American Mountain Guides Association created the Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) Scholarship Fund. With your support we raised $42,173 in 2020 and 2021. During the last 3 scholarship cycles there have been 53 applications and due to funding only 24 awarded. Celebrate our impact and view the full report here.

The goal of the BIPOC Scholarship Fund is to address key barriers identified by BIPOC members of the community in order to better support them throughout their AMGA programs. Thanks to the help from our advisory committee, we created a model that will offer funding twice a year and will cover program fees, travel funds, mentorship support, and/or provider fees.

Racial inequities and beyond, continue to exist inside and outside of our association, we are making a commitment to sustain this fund for the years to come. The AMGA is hosting the BIPOC Scholarship Fund Fundraising Event this year during the month of November and we need your support. Our minimum goal this year is $15,000 to continue offering the same impact. We are relying on AMGA members, the climbing and skiing public, and key stakeholders to successfully reach this target.

"Little by little, year by year, initiatives like this will open spaces for people like me that then can leverage their knowledge to create a greater impact and re-shape the outdoor community.”

-Luis Armando Gil, BIPOC Scholarship Fund Recipient
