We are two Syrian refugee girls, Aseel and Lujain. We need to raise $17,905 to continue our education and become leaders in our community. We kindly ask for your support.

Thanks to the amazing support we have received on the campaign, we have been successful in reaching our original target of $6,220!! Alongside support from Brummana High School & Alsama charity, we have fully covered the costs for this academic year. Now, we have decided to look ahead and raise our original target to $17,905 to include the costs for the next academic year (2022-2023). This will take us one step closer to completing our secondary education.

We live in the Shatila refugee camp in Lebanon. We had to flee our home country and lost years of school education because of the Syrian war. Yet we always continued to learn and study by ourselves. Our friends describe us as phenomenal young women: motivated, optimistic, team players, and determined – and we both love cricket & yoga.

  • Last summer, we each succeeded in earning a one-year-scholarship to an online programme at Bishopstrow College in the UK, and we persuaded the Alsama charity in Shatila to sponsor us with laptops. For the following 12 months, we shared virtual classrooms with top students from all over the world.  It was a challenge and an adventure - and in June this year, we emerged from this experience with top marks at the school. This gave us hope that if we set our goals high and work hard, we can make anything possible.
  • So for the year ahead, we decided to reach even higher... We applied to Brummana High School, a British school in Lebanon ranked as one of the top schools in the Middle East (2020, Spear's Schools Index). And we got in!!! Brummana was impressed with our creativity, logic & reasoning, and personal aspirations. Going to Brummana High School means we will have the opportunity to eventually sit our A-levels (aka graduate high school), which we see as an essential stepping stone to accessing university education and achieving our dreams.
  • Our dreams for the future are BIG! We want to become an English professor (Aseel) and a gynaecologist (Lujain) – learn more about us below. Our shared mission is to transform our community, specifically in refugee camps and back in Syria. We want to help them become healthier and more educated, and we want to empower other girls and women.

Now you know a bit about who we are and what our dreams are.

With your amazing support, we have succeeded in covering the costs for this academic year.

But ... we still need to raise $11,685 ($5,785 and $5,900 each) to cover the costs for the next academic year (2022-2023). The difference in funds we each require next year reflects our different grade levels. Raising $11,685 will help us to reach our new goal of $17,905 guaranteeing our education for the next two years.

We would be grateful to anyone who is excited by our story & can help us continue our education journey. All money kindly donated will be directed to Alsama, where it will be protected in a special fund to support our education.
