The Alliance for Land and Legacy is a nonprofit dedicated to preserving history and honoring those who stood up to injustice from the Caribbean to the battlefields of WWII. We focus on protecting historic land, sharing overlooked stories, and creating spaces for education and remembrance.
Our first major project is Queen Breffu Freedom Park, on the island of St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The park is being built on historic family land the site of a 1733 rebellion led by an enslaved woman named Queen Breffu. It was one of the earliest uprisings against slavery in the Americas.
We believe preserving this land and telling this story is a powerful step toward a more honest understanding of our past. Just as many brave Black Americans fought overseas in WWII for freedom and democracy, others fought here long before the world was watching.
