AIR Gallery CIC is a volunteer led contemporary art space aimed at providing opportunities for emerging and early career artists. This has been through exhibition opportunities, paid commissions, art awards, mentoring, workshops and peer support.
During this time here we have hosted 55 exhibitions on site in our main gallery, 10 exhibitions in our Micro Gallery and 3 external shows providing opportunities for 954 artists from around the globe. Our shows have been visited by almost 15,000 people from all over the country and even internationally. We have been lucky to have 9 of our shows funded by Arts Council England and other funders- helping us to provide paid opportunities and financial support for 75 artists. We have also hosted 5 virtual shows, featuring 281 artists with 8292 views overall.
However as of November 2023 we will sadly be losing our space here at Grosvenor Road which we've called home for the past 7 years. Although this is a time of great loss, we are looking forward positively to the future.
Anyone who knows us knows we hate asking for help. But right now we do need your help to continue doing what we do. With the loss of venue comes new challenges, costs of space rental for shows, temporary event notices etc.
We also have the possibility of relocating to a new space- but we would need substantial funding and volunteer help to get us started.
Our plan right now is to raise funds to do pop up shows with the view that if we raise enough we can look to take on a new base location.
On average our shows costs us around £600 to put on if we're paying rent, advertisement and publishing costs. If paying artists- this fee triples. The more places we can find for free/low cost then the more opportunities and shows we can put on with the funds raised.
