2020 ACTA Living Cultures Grantee
The traditional arts need your support now more than ever. The difficult reality is that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a deep and lasting impact on both artist communities and communities of color—California’s traditional artists have been doubly hit by the social and economic effects of COVID-19.
During this time of extreme need among our constituents, the Alliance for California Traditional Arts (ACTA) did not close down or downsize operations. Rather, we more than doubled our output of funding for the field, administering several new grant programs and organizing multilingual sessions to share information on available resources through this period. We’ve linked arms with institutional partners and national coalitions to increase the depth and efficacy of our COVID responses, tapping into new skills in online convenings and remote collaboration.
Traditional practices and expressions have survived generations of change and upheaval. Traditional artists have always been on the front line of taproot care and repair in their communities through challenging times. We take continued inspiration from the adaptive, creative, and resilient character of these stewards and their art forms. We at ACTA will continue to dance with change in the months and years to come.

Las artes tradicionales necesitan su apoyo ahora más que nunca. La difícil realidad es que la pandemia de COVID-19 ha tenido un impacto profundo y duradero tanto en las comunidades de artistas como en las comunidades de color; lxs artistas tradicionales de California se han visto doblemente afectadxs por los efectos sociales y económicos del COVID-19.
Durante este tiempo de extrema necesidad entre nuestros electores, la Alianza para las Artes Tradicionales en California (ACTA por sus siglás en inglés) no cerró ni redujo sus operaciones. Más bien, duplicamos nuestro resultado de fondos para el campo, administrando varios programas de subvenciones nuevas y organizando sesiones bilingües para compartir información sobre los recursos disponibles durante este período. Nos hemos vinculado con colaboradores institucionales y coaliciones nacionales para aumentar la profundidad y eficacia de nuestras respuestas a COVID, aprovechando nuevas habilidades en convocatorias en línea y colaboración remota.
Las prácticas y expresiones tradicionales han sobrevivido generaciones de cambios y turbulencia. Los artistas tradicionales siempre han estado a la vanguardia del cuidado y la reparación de las raíces en sus comunidades durante tiempos difíciles. Nos inspiramos continuamente en el carácter adaptativo, creativo y resistente de estxs cuidadorxs y sus formas de arte. En ACTA seguiremos bailando con el cambio en los meses y años venideros.
