Stephen is a veteran of The Marine Corps and is accustomed to holding two or more jobs at a time. In August of 2021 Stephen came down with COVID and was hospitalized. Through the time of hospitalization that Stephen endured he lost his home, he was in a coma for six weeks, and he lost his legs. Due to low quality care Stephen woke up with bed sores that had gone septic and had to undergo 11 surgeries to remove all the infected areas and his legs. Stephen needs your help.
Upon being discharged from the hospital and rehabilitative care he was able to pull enough resources together to buy a used but good condition trailer. Unfortunately, this trailer is not accessible. He has a ramp that can only be used with assistance and even that is treacherous. He cannot fit through the doorways inside of his trailer with a wheelchair, including the bathroom which remains completely inaccessible to him. Not long after moving into his trailer it was discovered that the roof leaked due to stresses from relocating and there is now some damage. The roof and some of the interior needs repair.
We here at the New York Volunteer Network strive to help those like Stephen on an individual basis with regards to their individual needs. To get a new start in life after this tragic series of events Stephen needs a home that he can utilize and be comfortable in to begin rebuilding his life. Stephen is used to being very active as an outdoorsman, hard worker, and he certainly has the positive and hardworking mentality to help him achieve his goals of fishing, hunting, and once again finding his purpose in life.
Due to the immediate nature of his needs the New York Volunteer Network will address his needs in order of importance as we meet certain fundraising goals:
Address water damage and seal: $4,700
Bathroom, interior doors, and miscellaneous: $8,800
Two safely ramped exits: $5,000
Together, with your help, we can assist Stephen on his path forward.
