A HOME FOR NIKOS 🏡💗
Help us give the man who built a home for 300 dogs a home of his own.
For more than a decade, Nikos Tsikalakis, the heart behind Bronx Familia Animal Shelter in Crete, has dedicated his entire life to saving dogs that had nowhere else to go.
He lives for them — rescues them from chains, streets, and abuse — and gives them safety, care, and love every single day.
But while hundreds of dogs now have shelter, Nikos himself lives in heartbreaking conditions.
He lives inside a small metal container, no bigger than a bedroom. The floor is broken and smells of old pee from the many puppies he’s raised there until they were strong enough for a kennel. His kitchen has broken cabinets and no hot running water. In winter, the cold cuts through the thin walls, and in summer, the heat is unbearable.
Still, Nikos shares this little space with 5–15 dogs at a time — the ones who are sick, injured, or too young to be outside. They sleep beside him in his bed because they know he’ll never turn them away.
He never complains. He never asks for help. He just keeps giving — day after day, year after year.
This year, for his birthday on October 29th, we want to change that.
We want to give something back to the man who has given everything for the dogs.
💗 Our goal: €12,000
The funds will go toward building a small, simple, safe home for Nikos, right in his favourite spot at the shelter — close to the dogs he loves so deeply.
Here’s exactly how your donations will be used:
• 🧱 €2,000 — Cement foundation and preparation of the area
• 🏠 €8,000 — Construction of the new home (walls, roof, doors, insulation)
• 💧 €2,000 — Finishing touches: electricity, plumbing, a small kitchen, and a working bathroom
Nothing fancy. Nothing excessive.
Just a home — double the size of his current container — where he can sleep, shower, and cook a warm meal after caring for 300 souls every day.
Nikos has spent years building a safe haven for others.
