Music inspires creativity, and A Chance to Rock helps by bringing music education into the lives of children who rarely get that opportunity or exposure. This nonprofit initiative provides music lessons, access to instruments, and professional performance experiences for children ages 4 to 18 who are growing up within the foster care system. Launched in 2022, the success of this program is built upon an amazing collaboration between Nelda Studios, The Buckman Fund, Austin Angels, and Band Aid School of Music.
A Chance to Rock provides free weekly private music lessons and classes for a wide variety of instruments, including piano, guitar, voice, drums, bass, and ukulele. The instruments used by each child are provided free of charge, to help them build a passion for music. In addition, the children are provided the opportunity to bring their new skills into the spotlight with multiple professionally organized stage performances each year, giving each and every child their own personal chance to rock.
On any given day, over 400,000 children nationally are living in foster homes. Typically, only half graduate from high school. However, graduation rates go up significantly when the students have access to extracurricular activities. If those activities include music lessons, the benefits are compounded. Learning to play an instrument improves academic performance, self-discipline, self-esteem, and gives youth in care an outlet to express themselves and process trauma.
Music can have a powerful, positive impact on a child, especially those in the midst of an unstable or sometimes traumatic home life. You can help these children by providing a creative outlet through music education. Every donation you make goes to help children in foster care experience the power of music. Please donate now!
