Help Jumaa's family!
Jumaa’s mother has seven children, and every night, nine of them sleep in a single room—well, almost. To make a little more space, the two oldest boys sleep in the corridor. Now, even that fragile sense of home is at risk. Jumaa’s father is the building’s guardian, responsible for cleaning and attending to its tenants. The home they live in was meant for him, but when war broke out in Syria, he had no choice but to bring his family to Lebanon for safety.
Now, with war ravaging Lebanon and tensions rising between Lebanese and Syrian refugees, their situation has worsened. Just last week, the building owner kicked them out onto the street, where they spent three days without shelter, food, or supplies. After those harrowing days, the owner allowed them back inside, but they live in constant fear of being thrown out again.
Jumaa’s mother can’t sleep. Her mind races with worry: Will a bomb hit their home, or will they be cast out into the cold winter streets to starve or freeze to death? Returning to Syria is not an option—their home was destroyed, and conditions there are unlivable, with no access to food, water, or electricity. Worse, their eldest sons risk being conscripted into the Syrian military, earning a meager $10 a month.

La madre de Jumaa tiene siete hijos y cada noche, nueve de ellos duermen en una habitación individual, bueno, casi. Para ganar un poco más de espacio, los dos hijos mayores duermen en el pasillo. Ahora, incluso esa frágil sensación de hogar está en peligro. El padre de Jumaa es el conserje del edificio, responsable de limpiar y atender a sus inquilinos. La casa en la que viven estaba destinada a él, pero cuando estalló la guerra en Siria, no tuvo más opción que traer a su familia al Líbano para ponerles a salvo.
Ahora, con la guerra asolando el Líbano y las tensiones en aumento entre los refugiados libaneses y sirios, su situación ha empeorado. La semana pasada, el dueño del edificio los echó a la calle, donde pasaron tres días sin refugio, comida ni suministros. Después de esos angustiosos días, el dueño les permitió volver a entrar, pero viven con el miedo constante de que los echen de nuevo.
La madre de Jumaa no puede dormir. Su mente se llena de preocupación: ¿Caerá una bomba en su casa o se verán arrojados a las frías calles en invierno para morir de hambre o de frío? Regresar a Siria no es una opción: su hogar fue destruido y las condiciones allí son inhabitables, sin acceso a alimentos, agua ni electricidad. Peor aún, sus hijos mayores corren el riesgo de ser reclutados en el ejército sirio, ganando apenas diez dólares al mes.
Esta familia está desesperada y atrapada entre dos guerras. Necesitan ayuda urgente para sobrevivir.
