Hanna, Maria’s mother, is exhausted from merely surviving. She dreams of more for her children—not just to endure but to truly live. Yet, reality is cruel.
Her husband sews for a living, while she takes any work she can find—cleaning, cooking—just to scrape by. Even so, they cannot afford a home of their own. They share a space with another family, paying $280 in rent, leaving only $120 for food, water, and other essentials.
Their son Youssef was supposed to start school this year. He didn’t—because they couldn’t afford it. Their daughter Maria is attending with a desperate promise to pay at year’s end, a promise her parents know they cannot keep.
Hanna and her husband are warriors. They have endured two wars, hunger, and hardship, sacrificing everything for their children’s future. Yet, no matter how hard they fight, it is never enough. Hanna suffers from unexplained pain in her legs, but she does not ask for help for herself. She only asks for one thing: education for her children.
