HELP UM HAMID
Imagine living through a war. Watching friends and neighbors flee, packing your life into a small bag, leaving the streets that shaped you. You arrive in a new country, heartbroken but safe. You start fresh, renting a tiny apartment, a place that soon feels like home—especially when your first child, Hamid, is born. Then, one by one, you welcome four more children. You watch them walk to school, grateful for a privilege you never had. Slowly, you begin to rebuild. But then, fear finds you again. The country you sought for safety becomes dangerous. Your children lose access to school, and your husband suffers a herniated disc, making it harder to work. Hunger and cold return, and this time, winter feels endless. War encroaches once more, shattering everything you rebuilt. Imagine having a life like this. Um Hamid doesn’t need to imagine—this is her life, full of sorrow and survival.
Um Hamid has spent her life fighting for her children’s future, but relentless poverty has made it nearly impossible to create lasting change. None of her children are currently in school because she cannot afford tuition.
She’s not asking for much—just 15 euros to buy the medicine her daughter needs. A painful rash has spread across her arms, legs, and ears. Help her bring relief to her little girl.

Imagina vivir una guerra. Ver a amigos y vecinos huir, guardar tu vida en una pequeña maleta y abandonar las calles en las que creciste. Imagina llegar a un nuevo país, destrozada pero a salvo. Empiezas de cero, alquilas un pequeño apartamento, un lugar que pronto se siente como tu hogar, especialmente cuando nace tu primer hijo, Hamid. Luego, uno por uno, das a luz a cuatro niños más. Los ves caminar hacia la escuela, agradecida por un privilegio que nunca tuviste. Lentamente, comienzas a reconstruir tu vida.
Pero entonces, el miedo te encuentra de nuevo. El país que buscabas para estar a salvo se vuelve peligroso. Tus hijos pierden el acceso a la escuela y tu marido sufre una hernia de disco, lo que dificulta que trabaje. El hambre y el frío regresan, y esta vez, el invierno parece interminable. La guerra llega a tu vida una vez más, destrozando todo lo que reconstruiste. Imagina tener una vida así. Um Hamid no necesita imaginar: esta es su vida, llena de dolor y supervivencia.
Um Hamid ha pasado su vida luchando por el futuro de sus hijos, pero la pobreza ha hecho que sea casi imposible crear un cambio duradero. Ninguno de sus hijos asiste actualmente a la escuela porque no puede pagar la matrícula.
