"My name is Ahed. I am from Aleppo in Syria. I have one son. His name is Yazan. After my husband died, he became my entire life.
We have been in Lebanon since 2014. Since my son was little, he has always wanted to become a doctor. He excelled in school and was always the first one of his class. However, like many other syrian children, he was not allowed to register in the public school this year. The only option left was semi-private school and we could not afford it. At the same time, prices in Lebanon went up and our landlord started asking for more money. As a single mom, I could not support my own child. Yazan has always been very kind and thoughtful so he decided to leave school and his dream behind and work. It broke my heart.
I dream of one day telling him to quit his job and go back to school but it doesn't matter how much I try to work, it is simply not enough."

"Mi nombre es Ahed. Soy de Aleppo en Siria. Tengo un hijo, su nombre es Yazan. Después de la muerte de mi esposo, se convirtió en mi vida entera.
Estamos en el Líbano desde 2014. Desde que mi hijo era pequeño, siempre quiso ser médico. Siempre destacó en la escuela como el primero de su clase. Sin embargo, como a muchos otros niños sirios, no le permitieron matricularse en la escuela pública este año. La única opción que quedaba era la escuela semi-privada y no podíamos pagarla. Al mismo tiempo, los precios en el Líbano estaban subiendo y nuestro casero empezó a pedir más dinero. Como madre soltera, no podía mantener a mi propio hijo. Yazan siempre ha sido muy amable y considerado, así que decidió dejar atrás la escuela y su sueño y ponerse a trabajar. Me rompió el corazón.
Sueño con decirle algún día que renuncie a su trabajo y vuelva a la escuela, pero no importa cuánto intente trabajar, simplemente no es suficiente".
