The All African People’s Development and Empowerment Project, a 501c.3 non profit organization, has won approval from the FCC to operate a noncommercial low power FM radio station in North St. Louis.
The new radio station will broadcast on 94.1 FM to a 5-mile radius covering St. Louis’ Black community and beyond, to be known as “Black Power 94” with the call letters KSLB, “Keeping St. Louis Black.”
Plans to renovate the building at 4029 W. Florissant Avenue for Black Power 94 radio studios were submitted to the St. Louis Zoning Board. A conditional use hearing is set for August 27.
Burning Spear Media is raising funds to get the word out and prepare for the launch of this latest institution of the Black Power Blueprint in St. Louis’ Uhuru District that already features a bakery cafe, a community center, a beautiful outdoor event space and garden, a free state-of-the art basketball court for our youth and adults and an urban farm.
A Black community radio station in this location will benefit the Northside community through:
Modernizing and beautifying an older building and bringing more life and positive community activity back to a historic Black commercial street
Cultural upliftment including access to radio airwaves for unsigned talent
Free broadcast and journalism training to community members of all ages
Media resources where Black people can tell our own stories
Public education on all aspects of health, economic self-reliance and community-building
Emergency broadcasts in case of weather or other local emergencies, alerting neighbors about how to prepare for life-threatening weather and when to take cover from an impending storm, and then providing information on recovery resources
Broadcast Public Service Announcements for community and faith events
Your donation of any amount will help this important project become a reality. Thank you!
