What does belonging mean in a family line? [ ] is a corporeal-sonic exploration into the untold histories of our femme ancestors co-created by choreographer Adrienne Westwood and composer Angélica Negrón, along with an interdisciplinary group of performers and creatives.
[ ] is a dual experience of intimate performance and participatory installation.
The work is anchored by an interactive musical sculpture from which “memories”– a collection of simple yet evocative objects – are suspended. [ ] calls in and holds experiences of private and personal memories of family lore, real/imagined histories, and femme ancestor's visible/invisible labor, ultimately asking “What is long ago but still right now?”
In March, twelve of us will tour this large-scale project to San Francisco for preview performances at ODC Theater, March 21-23, 2025 as part of their spring season. We are concurrently working toward the premiere of the work in NYC.
With all of this exciting activity ahead, we have set an ambitious fundraising goal.
As you probably know by now, we’ve already invested four years, and countless rehearsal and planning hours, into the creation of this project. Our upcoming tour to San Francisco will really propel this project forward and bring it closer to its premiere here at home in NYC. Of course, with these milestone artistic achievements come bigger fundraising requirements.
Your gift will provide the vital support we need to accomplish this new scale of work, including sharing it on both coasts!
Together with my board of directors and collaborators, I want to express our sincerest thanks for being on this creative journey with us.
Thank you for your generous support!
Sincerely,
Adrienne Westwood
co-founder and artistic director
