More about the South Hamilton Music Boosters:
The South Hamilton Music Boosters' mission is to encourage, promote and support the activities of our outstanding music program for the benefit of all K-12 music students.
The Boosters help fund several different activities, including the high school music department trip to Chicago, which happens every 4 years.
Our organization recently purchased new marching band uniforms for the high school band, which cost approximately $40,000.
More about the grant project:
We applied for the Enhance Hamilton County Foundation grant to purchase new instruments and equipment for the music department at South Hamilton, which will be used for all grade levels K-12.
Approximately 50% of the project budget will be used to purchase new instruments for the junior high and high school band, 40% will be used to purchase equipment for the elementary band, and the remaining 10% will be used to purchase equipment for the K-12 general music program and choirs.
Many instruments that are integral to a complete concert band and jazz band are large and expensive, and students and their families cannot typically purchase these instruments on their own. Instead, instruments such as sousaphones, tenor and baritone saxophones and many percussion items are purchased and provided by the school.
In addition, musical instruments such as electric pianos and equipment such as a conductor’s podium are necessary for successful general music and choir programs and performances.
These expenses are not covered by the school’s existing operating budget.
Many of the instruments that need to be replaced are quite expensive and have not been replaced in 20-40 years and it has been at least ten years since any new instruments have been purchased.
However, we continue to see the South Hamilton music programs growing. Since 2015, the high school band has grown from 48 members to 74 members (a 54% increase) with several more members joining mid-way through the 2022-2023 school year. As a result of this trend, equipment is getting heavier usage and needs to be replaced while also purchasing additional items.

Businesses and individuals who donate will be recognized as part of the South Hamilton Music Boosters Patron Program, and the list will be published in all SH Elementary, Middle and High School concert programs!
