For the two consecutive years, we have successfully supported children with back-to-school backpacks/bookbags and education resource supplies for children ages 4-17. At the height of the pandemic since July 2020, Our organization along with our community partners have fed and continue to over 110,000 families across the state of Connecticut to address food insecurities in our poorer communities. With children being out of the physical classroom and at home the economic hardship and hunger increased. 2 Recently, our past sponsor has been Tyson Foods donating over 1,553 pounds of protein to help feed over 1,000 families June 25. On August 27, 28, & 29, we will be in Bloomfield, Hartford and New Haven Connecticut supplying children with backpacks filled with school supplies, and boxes of breakfast foods to start the week off right with breakfast for families. Perdue is our national sponsor and will provide 2,000 roasters for each family for their dinner. The first two locations on August 27 and 28 in Bloomfield and Hartford, we will have a cook-out, motivational speaker and volunteers who will help disseminate backpacks with school supplies, and food boxes for families. For the Bloomfield location, we will be at the Blue Hills Fire Department at 4 p.m. In Hartford, we will be on 319 Barbour Street at Noon. The culmination of the events will take place in New Haven with a Back-to-School-For-Our-Kids start the Year Right parade, Sunday, August 29, 2021 at 2 p.m. The parade will be a 2.2-mile walk in New Haven starting at the corner Dixwell Avenue and bassett Street to the New Haven Green so we can get in the communities where the people are not able to get the needed items.
. We plan to additionally give laptops, and the same backpacks filled with school supplies and the food boxes to start the week off for families with nutrition. Rap artist legend Chubb Rock will be headlining our parade. The children mostly reached will be Black/African American, Latino/Hispanic, as well as all children from all walks of impoverished and/or experiencing financial hardship. They will be reentering into the classroom once again for the first time in over a year. Whether they end up going full or part time all these resources discussed are desperately needed. Many of these children were traumatized due to COVID-19 as well as the negative impact from virtual truancy, boredom, and lack of resources. We invite you to become an donor and team with us and be a sponsor for our events. Our direct estimated reach will be 2,000 children. However, the estimated impact will reach the entire communities in Hartford, New Haven and Bloomfield which will be over 101,000 in the African American/Black community and 96,000 in the Latino/Hispanic community. With your help we estimate we will impact over nearly 20,000 children by reaching our overall goal . We greatly appreciate your time reviewing our Donation request.
