The Mahogany Project, Inc. (TMP) of Houston, Texas, was founded on April 24, 2017, to create safer spaces for Black people of trans experience after the murder of Chyna Doll Dupree – a beloved performer in the pageantry community. Black Trans Empowerment Week is held annually and occurs in union with national Trans Day of Remembrance (November 20).
