Goal
Zero Malnutrition Project (ZMP) aims at controlling and preventing malnutrition among under five years children who are at risk of malnutrition and deficiency diseases.
After carrying a survey, Fields of Hope found out that there is severe malnutrition and deficiency diseases in under five years children born from families of persons with disabilities. These children are admitted to the hospital for treatment and after rehabilitation phase, the children return to their families and get the same diseases again and get stunted and other complications because their families have no food security.
The project will support 495 families with disabilities that have under five years children who are at risk of malnutrition and deficiency diseases from less advantaged communities of Rwanda by providing improved mango fruit seedlings, laying hens and a goat to each family.
The project will also provide the beneficiaries with improved seeds, agricultural and nutrition training to the beneficiaries. Improved seedlings that provide enough yields in a short period of time and improved mango fruit seedlings will enable them to attain food security for their families. Hens and goats will enable them to boost their nutrition status and get organic manure for their gardens.
The hens and goat provided will also produce and hence increase their economic status. The agricultural training that will be provided to them will help them to be able to make organic manure and improve on their farming methods and increase their yields and hence sustain food security.
Through the nutrition training, the beneficiaries will get enough knowledge of how to prepare their meals while preserving food nutrients, balance the family diets and proper feeding of their children and hence eradicating malnutrition and deficiency diseases from their families.
Zero Malnutrition Project will be implemented in Nyanza district, southern province of Rwanda. In addition to project implementation, Fields of Hope Organization will also monitor and evaluate Zero Malnutrition Project.
