Open Food Facts is a non-profit organisation dedicated to empowering consumers worldwide with transparent and accessible food information. Since our humble beginnings in 2012, we’ve collectively built a global database of food products, crowdsourced by volunteers and free for everyone to use.

Open Food Facts has become a vital resource for those wanting to make healthier, more sustainable food choices & for researchers on a mission to improve public health. 

Access to such information is crucial in a world where 1 in 8 people in the world are living with obesity*, a major risk factor for a range of diseases, including heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and various types of cancer. Or where food additives that have been linked to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease are rampant in the ultra-processed food offer (in Europe and North America, 30 to 60% of dietary energy intake in adults is provided by UPFs. See latest research**).

As international as our project may be, we still struggle to find the funds necessary to maintain and expand this free tool. 

Our community, supported by a small permanent team, works diligently to ensure that the database remains accurate, up-to-date, and available in many languages.
