We come to you today with heavy hearts as we witness the struggles of many immigrant families in Maine. Due to a lack of affordable housing options, they are forced to reside in hotels, a situation that is far from ideal, especially for families with young children. As you may know, new immigrants face numerous challenges when trying to settle into a new country, and finding affordable and safe housing is among the most daunting. That is why we are committed to establishing a new immigrant shelter that will provide temporary housing to those in dire need. We firmly believe that this shelter will make a tangible difference in the lives of countless new immigrants, giving them a stable base from which they can begin to rebuild their lives in a new country. However, we cannot achieve this goal alone. We urgently need the support of our community partners, and we are reaching out to you today to ask for your help.
