Background:

  • Over the past two years, members of the Yorklyn Community Association have done everything we can to prevent irresponsible development along Yorklyn Road.
  • We made progress: we were able to block the 6-story Chatham Bay luxury condo, and we got the state to purchase almost 30 acres of the NVF site for open space preservation.
  • But there are still three townhouse developments that DNREC wrongly approved for construction, which could begin any day now. These developments would bring about 130 new housing units to Yorklyn Road, which could cause major problems for our drinking water supply and for traffic and roads in this area. DNREC is letting these projects proceed without properly assessing or mitigating those impacts.

We need your support: Can you help us stop the developments?

  • We have identified a law firm that is willing to represent with us. Now we need to raise the funds to hire them.
  • Our initial goal: $45,000 to retain the law firm, pursue our initial legal action, and hire an environmental consultant.
  • Our next goal: $55,000 more to pay for additional legal action.

If you prefer to make your tax-deductible donation by check:

  • Make payable to: Network Delaware
  • Memo line: Yorklyn Community Association
  • Mail to: Network Delaware, 719 N. Shipley St, Wilmington, DE 19801

FAQs:

  • Are donations to the legal fund tax-deductible? Yes!
  • Can I pledge to donate instead of donating right now? Yes! You can do so here: https://forms.gle/nLkxySgA6F8FBEsU9. If you pledge now, we will ask you to donate once we reach our initial goal of $45,000 to retain the law firm.
  • What happens if I donate but you fall short of the $45,000 goal? We will return your donation, minus the online processing fee if you donated online.
  • What is Network Delaware? Network Delaware is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that serves as the fiscal sponsor for the Yorklyn Community Association. The Yorklyn Community Association is incorporated as a nonprofit but does not yet have 501(c)(3) status, so Network Delaware currently manages our finances and accepts tax-deductible donations on our behalf.

I’m not opposed to development, however, it needs to be done according to the standards and regulations that have been well established. This is clearly an end run by the developers to skirt said regulations and this is what our lawsuit seeks to achieve. We need to do everything we can to protect our aquifer which is really. I hope that you will join me in this effort.
