Fundraising on behalf of YMCA Norfolk
I have been a trustee for the YMCA for over 4 years and seen the amazing work they do each day to transform the lives of vulnerable young people. Whether it be providing a nursery space for a pre school child, education to a teenager who is finding going to school too hard, mental health support for a young person or a roof over their head in one of our hostel's, the YMCA are impacting and changing lives. I have been moved to hear young people talk about their journey from the street to employment and a home of their own because of the dedication and focused support of the YMCA. Please support me in my one night sleeping out in a cardboard shelter, by pledging what ever you can spare, in order that together we can continue to support vulnerable young people from spending many more than one night in a cardboard shelter or shop doorway.
With my heartfelt thanks and prayers
Niki
What is Sleep Easy?
Each year YMCA Norfolk joins YMCAs from across England and Wales to take part in a mammoth Sleep Easy fundraising event with the aim of raising vital funds to help tackle the root causes of youth homelessness.
Since its beginnings in 2010, YMCA Sleep Easy has seen over 7,000 people sleep rough across England in order to raise over £1.5 million for local YMCA services that assist young people in rebuilding their lives.
And so, from 7pm on Friday 8th March to 7am on Saturday 9th March, YMCA Norfolk is calling on supporters and fundraisers to join #SleepEasy2024.
Where do the funds go?
Every night YMCA Norfolk provides a safe home and support for over 330 vulnerable young people in Norfolk. Money raised from the event will go towards delivering much needed support for residents and vulnerable young people, including emergency accommodation, counselling, life coaching, employment support and much more.
We are keen to support our young people towards independent living, which means not only providing them with a roof over their head but also the chance to live independently and thrive as part of the community.
You can can sign up for the event via our registration form alongside paying a small registration fee, which includes hot drinks, refreshments and a cooked breakfast. You’ll then be sent a participant pack which includes information on how to fundraise for the event and what to bring with you on the night! If you would like any further information in the meantime, please email our community fundraising officer, Elsie, on [email protected]
You can help by sharing information and posts about the event from our social media pages – we’re on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram. We use #YMCASleepEasy24 to keep everyone in the loop via social media.
You can also sponsor individuals taking part or donate directly to our Sleep Easy appeal. We’d welcome any donations or sponsorship for the event and would publicly recognise this support. Please get in touch with Elsie on the email address above if you would like to discuss sponsorship options or even hosting and running your very own sleep easy event.

Niki What a brave and thoughtful thing to do. I'm glad that you managed to make it through the night OK. It sounds from your experience that the worse thing that rough sleepers endure isn't the cold or hunger, but fear of what or who may be lurking in the shadows. I've been helping my younger daughter run the Anon soup kitchen and have been recently reminded of the plight many young people face when out on the streets of our Fine City. However, with continued support from organisations such as Anon and of course the YMCA, we can make a difference to the lives of vulnerable young people in Norwich and Norfolk. Working for the YMCA myself, I have seen first hand what fantastic work all its employees and volunteers do and how it genuinely changes lives for the better. Great job once again - a brilliant effort. Russell Cole
