World War One Memorial
Grey County sent thousands of citizens to the battlefields of Europe to serve King and Country in the bloodbath of World War I. Many never returned to their homes, and all were forever changed by their experiences. Life in Grey County was never the same.
This monument in Moreston Heritage Village will honour and recognize Grey County’s three local units that served in World War I: the 31st Regiment and the 147th and 248th Battalions.
Centrally located in the Village, the monument will serve as a dramatic reminder of the lasting impact World War I had and continues to have on Grey County and the surrounding area. With no remaining veterans from World War I, it has never been more important to educate and engage with the public on how World War I shaped the development of our country through the 1920s and beyond.
The completed monument will be unveiled at a public ceremony. The creation of this lasting monument requires an investment of $52,000. Support from Veteran’s Affairs, Sanderson Monuments, and other community partners has provided the majority of the funds needed.
Grey Roots is asking for public support to raise the additional $7,000 needed to complete this meaningful community project.
