WORDPLAY Adult Spelling Bee

When Sam was born, we started searching for a place that matched our values, a place where curiosity, creativity, and kindness could grow. We found Alabama Waldorf School, and somewhere along the way, I realized: for better or worse, I’d found my people. We’re here, we’re weird, and it’s all framed in love.

I used to pick up Sam in kindergarten, and we’d sit in the downstairs hallway while I read books to them. It was so quiet and peaceful. We also walked the trail in the woods behind the school, imagining we were in a massive forest. The payoff is in moments like these, and in seeing Sam and their classmates grow into their authentic selves. And as a single dad with no biological family except Sam, the warmth and sincerity I’ve found here remind me that this community is my family.

I’m participating in the WORDPLAY Adult Spelling Bee to help Alabama Waldorf School continue to give our kids opportunities they might not otherwise have: to explore, to imagine, to belong. Every donation, no matter the size, directly helps a child and their family grow. It’s simple, really: stay open, embrace the weird, love others, and know you’re loved.
