This scholarship fund was a collaborative effort of Dwight Kessel, WWHS Class of ’43, and several family members who donated property to BAF for the purpose of starting the endowment. The property was sold, and Truman Sayre joined Dwight in an effort to contact classmates for additional contributions. The Citizens Scholarship Committee of Beckley offered some challenge money to further motivate donors. The donations were pooled and the required minimum of $10,000 was surpassed. The annual net income will be used to provide a need-based scholarship for a WWHS graduating senior.
