Goal
We’re thrilled to share an exciting new project happening at the sanctuary: constructing cave houses for our rescues! These structures will provide crucial protection from the elements, ensuring our animals stay safe and comfortable throughout the year.
This week our team has been working hard learning a building technique called cobbing!
Cob is a natural material made from a mixture of sand, clay, and straw, and we can create it right here at the sanctuary by utilizing our natural resources! Not only is cob 100% waste-free, it’s also incredibly eco-friendly, allowing us to build beautiful shelters that blend seamlessly into the environment.
They're also long-lasting and incredibly durable, providing relief from the heat during summer months, shelter from the cold in the winter, and a great form of enrichment all year around for rescues who enjoy laying atop them, or using the height they provide to survey the sanctuary!
These new cave houses will replace the wooden shelters and plastic dog igloos many of our rescues currently use, providing them with a comforting and enriching environment that’s far more suited to their wild spirits.
While cob allows us to save a significant amount of money, especially for smaller modifications like wind- and rain-breaks required by the USDA, we’ll need to invest more to construct entirely new cave houses. This includes non-natural materials to create the floors, frames, and supportive meshing.
We’re aiming to build at least eight new structures before winter, and we need your help to make it happen!
By supporting this project, you’re not only helping us provide safe, durable homes for our rescues, but also contributing to their overall well-being and quality of life. Every dollar brings us closer to completing these beautiful, natural shelters, just in time for winter.
Will you join us in making this dream a reality? Your generosity directly impacts the care and comfort of the animals who call Wild Spirit home, and we can’t thank you enough for your continued support!
Then whatever from the above that needs to be moved over to the donation landing page.
