WingWoman Lebanon: Dignified Access Through Reusable Hygiene Products 

Zeina, a mother of a 5 year old daughter with a health condition, signed up to our livelihoods training program to learn practical skills to enable her to buy the medication her daughter needs. Not only was she able to buy the medication, she also gained confidence throughout the training saying “I’m proud because I work now” and “when I proved myself, I felt like a useful member of society.” 

Zeina is one of many in her situation, given that poverty rates in Lebanon increased to 82% in 2023, with women in particular lacking financial independence and therefore facing increased risk of violence and abuse. Other women also expressed:

“It’s beautiful to spend your own money without asking your husband or son.”

“I paid school fees from my own work. It gave me peace of mind.”

Our reusable items produced in these programmes are then distributed to those who need them most. These products not only improve health outcomes, but provide dignity and save families valuable money.

Oula, a Syrian mother of 4 living in Shatila said:

"Honestly, above everything, they are saving me money. I was buying disposable, now instead I can get [my daughter] clothes and milk. I can buy anything she needs with that money." 

At WingWoman Lebanon, we envision a world in which all women have agency and opportunity to create promising futures for themselves and the planet. We provide cost-effective reusable period pads and diapers which enables us to also offer decent work opportunities to women and reduce waste in landfill.
