24 people a minute are victims of rape, assault, or stalking by an intimate partner in the US. DP/IPV results in 1300 deaths per year, so more than 3 people are killed by intimate partners per day.
Economic problems are at the root of why many women can't leave or go back. Here at Wind Haven, we want to provide more than a "band-aid" solution to domestic violence. With our awareness, education, and training we want to help prevent DV/IPV, but we also want to help women get out and be financially independent, as well as emotionally healed, so that they can be free and stay free.
What Do We Use Donations For?
Wind Haven Foundation is a 501c3 domestic violence organization, and all donations are tax-deductible. Donations to Wind Haven support our mission, help domestic violence victims in crisis, and help us reach our goals. Wind Haven intends to build a domestic violence recovery center in Warner Robins, GA. Long-term goals include nationwide & global recovery centers.
A Wind Haven recovery center will provide housing and programs designed to aid in healing from domestic abuse, professional counseling, pastoral care, education assistance, career counseling, and legal aid for victims of domestic violence. Currently, our most impactful program is our survivor Lyft program, where we aid survivors in getting a Lyft rental car so that they can start driving for Lyft as a ride-share driver, making an income, having reliable transportation, and giving them the means to having shelter. Donations allow us to help with the initial cost of the rental car, so that they can begin pulling themselves out of abuse, with a hand-up.
You may choose a designation for your donation to go towards general operations and organizational costs, towards the development of our Safe-Ride app to provide discounted safe rides for commuters in Middle Georgia, or to our Domestic Violence Hotel Shelter program, which allows us to temporarily house survivors during their recovery process. The budget for the Safe-Ride app is $6,000, so this is what we need to raise to develop the app. For our hotel shelter program, the average safe hotel room per night in our area is $80-$100 per night.
GENERAL DONATIONS: To ensure transparency and donor impact, a portion of donations made by well-informed donors will be allocated towards a monthly dividend portfolio dedicated exclusively to funding the operation of the recovery center. These dividends will be utilized not only to compensate employees directly involved in supporting survivors, but also to cover essential expenses such as food, housing costs, utilities, programs, and the procurement of necessary supplies. Stocks owned by 501c3 organizations are protected from capital gains tax. A stock portfolio funded by donations makes the donations last longer for a more lasting impact. The rest of the donation will be designed for purchasing, zoning, renovating, and furnishing the center.
