Will, I am a hospital worker in New South Wales, Australia and I have been following your campaign with great interest and appreciation for your struggle. I am donating because your's is the only campaign in the world where a worker/Socialist is fighting for a rank and file committee for the political independence of workers from corrupt unions. I send you my heartfelt solidarity and support. Victory to the International Working Class.

I am a former unionized public school teacher who fully supports Will's call to abolish the union bureaucracy. The unions, whether UAW, AFT, or those in other industries, do all they can to prevent workers from waging a fight to improve their conditions.

Power to the rank and file! Thank you for your dedication to getting workers' perspectives and helping organize the working class independently of the corrupt union bureaucracy, against the parasitic corporations and homicidal ruling class. No war but the class war!

I am a retired worker. I worked for 12 years as a steel worker at the Bethlehem steel plant at Sparrows Point in Baltimore Maryland. By Sept 1984, with the help of Fed Reserve chairman Paul Volcker, deindustialization, the benchmark union busting marked by the smashing of the Patco strike and the complicity of the trade union bureaucracy my layoffs became permanent. I transitioned to become an IT worker. It is so encouraging to see this campaign and that is why I want to support it, in addition to my support for WSWS. This campaign bot reflects the enormous militancy now growing in the international working class-the sleeping giant is in the process of waking !. And this campaign most importantly is giving a political perspective which is crucial in the current class struggles and in the struggles to come.

The majority of dues collected by UAW's Locals go to Detroit and very little support finds its way back to the Locals. One of the biggest expenses that Locals face is the legal cost to defend their members and contracts in arbitrations. The UAW has a legal department, but a Local’s access to Detroit’s legal team is very limited. It would be very helpful if each district had lawyers on staff to represent Locals in their arbitrations. When Locals need legal services, they could pay a modest hourly fee to offset the cost of having a few staff lawyers. In NYC, the hourly fee for an outside lawyer is $250 to $300 per hour and continues to increase. Being charged $125 per hour for the services of a staff lawyer would significantly reduce a Local’s legal expenses and allow Locals to focus their financial resources on organizing, contract negotiations, and representing our members.

As a retired teacher in New York City where the United Federation of Teachers is trying to privatize and reduce the healthcare plans of both active and retired teachers and other city workers, I fully support Will Lehman's campaign to abolish the union bureaucracies and break from the subordination of workers to the interests of the financial elite that is carried out through the ties to the Democrats. This system of capitalism is contrary to workers rights for healthcare, education, livable environment, social equality, and an end to imperialist war. It is so heartening to see a socialist running against the union apparatus.

This campaign has significance way beyond the UAW and as Will emphasizes it is an international campaign. The organization of rank and file committees is a necessary first step in breaking the grip of the union apparatus.

Rank and file committees are also the vehicle for international unity to declare workers political independence that can defeat all corporate parties which are hell-bent on pursuing pro-fascist imperialist war that threatens humanity.

I am supporting Will Lehman's campaign for UAW president because I think that in order for society to thrive it needs the working class to take power into its own hands

Will's campaign is an opportunity to bring a Marxist analysis of the unions, a way forward, and a socialist and internationalist program to hundreds of thousands of UAW members (400,000 active auto workers, other manufacturing workers, and academic and cultural workers, plus 500,000 retirees), as well as the global working class more broadly. I will happily put money toward this effort, and I hope others reading this will consider joining me in doing so.
