At the end of 2020, over 80 million individuals globally were tragically forced to leave their homes and seek refuge elsewhere due to violence, persecution, and human rights violations. In 2019, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) shared a concerning statistic. They reported that only about 55% of the girls in camps had their menstrual needs met with the right products, such as tampons and pads, and only 37% had satisfactory access to underwear. This lack of accessibility creates an unnecessary anxiety surrounding periods, which can negatively impact various aspects of menstruators' lives, including their education and mental health. When health and education are not given the attention and resources they deserve, particularly during adolescence, the consequences can be severe and long-lasting. Furthermore, the limited availability of period products poses a significant challenge for menstruating refugees, forcing them to resort to unsanitary alternatives or reuse disposable products. This not only jeopardizes their physical well-being but also exacerbates health risks. In Haiti, for at least the last three years, gangs have been terrorizing the population and many women and girls have been forced to flee their homes. Join us in our fundraising efforts to address the pressing issue of period poverty in camps in Haiti. While official numbers are not available, it is anticipated to be widespread, especially considering the challenging economic conditions in the country. Join the fight against period poverty! Donate 5USD (6.80 CAD) to help provide a kit to a menstruator in need. Our kits consist of essential hygiene products, including period products, along with informative materials to raise awareness about menstrual health.
