Support the West River Community Project & Market
The West River Community Project is re-committing to being a local food hub for our community, and re-inventing ways to do so. We're all struggling in different ways because of COVID-19. The WRCP hopes to continue to serve our beloved community by providing the West River Valley with a safe, clean, and easy means for ordering and picking up bulk goods and local farm produce from the store through a bulk and local food curb-side pick-up.
Our new online community market--The West River Community Market--is a project in partnership with the Townshend Farmers Market. The market aspires to be a virtual, year-round community market for the West River Valley. Help us continue to grow our resilient community with a thriving, sustainable, local food system!
The WRCP's mission is to support and strengthen the community, as well as local farmers and entrepreneurs.
In order to make the online market sustainable, the WRCP would need to bring in 30% of all sales to pay for running the platform. We hope to be able to meet these needs by charging our vendors a 15% commission and making up the other 15% via fundraising and donations, such as yours. This allows us to offer our vendors the highest value possible for their goods while not increasing the cost to the customer and still meeting our operating costs. We hope it will be functional and beneficial for everyone.
We are hesitant to raise the prices on food during this crisis, and even into the future, to ensure that all community members have access to healthy, affordable local food. Yet, we still have expenses such as utility bills, payroll, and general maintenance of our historic building. Without the donations from our lively Friday Pizza Nights, Tasty Tuesdays events, and our regular morning patrons (we miss you!), we're having a hard time making ends meet. We are also looking out for your neighbors with our WRC-Pay It Forward food scholarship program so those who are struggling financially can easily ask for assistance. (We have provided more than $500 worth of food and other goods to those who have asked!).
If you love the WRCP and what we stand for and you have the means to help out -- even a little, you will be helping the entire southern Vermont community and economy. Your donation will help secure access to safe, reliable, and nourishing local food for you and your neighbors. You will be paying our few employees their wages, and helping us to be there for you and your neighbors throughout this pandemic and the recovery.
