Support the Well Done Foundation
Thank you for your interest in supporting the Well Done Foundation and our mission to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the US by plugging orphaned and abandoned oil and gas wells.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates there are approximately 2.15 million unplugged abandoned wells scattered throughout the United States. We work with farmers and landowners, local and state governments, corporations and not-for-profit organizations to locate abandoned wells, measure and document the CO2 emissions, then plug the wells and restore the surrounding surface area to its original state.
Plugging orphan wells is not the single solution to slowing the pace of climate change. Collectively, we should all be doing everything we can to tackle and solve the problem, including switching to renewable sources of energy, planting trees (we love trees) and plugging leaking wells. That said, money spent plugging methane-leaking oil and gas wells is money efficiently spent, and it is a direct, immediate and effective way to fight climate change. To give an example, our average cost to plug an orphaned well is +/-$65,000. Some wells are cheaper to plug, some are much more expensive. Several of the wells we have plugged were emitting 4,000 metric tons of CO2e every year. To place that in context, to remove that same amount of CO2 from the atmosphere you would have to plant approximately 400,000 trees, which you would then have to manage and grow for 20 years. Hard to do that for $65,000, and the results are delayed.
This effective and immediate impact is why so many individuals, companies, and organizations have chosen to support our efforts, including Fuyuki Fujiwara. Hear directly from Mr. Fujiwara about why he was compelled to contribute to our foundation:
Our team is out there doing the work, but there are so many more wells to locate, measure, adopt, and plug. Your donation will help us scale up our efforts and make a real difference, #onewellatatime.

Thank you for ridding methane and other toxic gases from local communities. Makes me happy to see representation for those that don't know how to navigate the bureaucracy that riddles abandoned wells.
