Help Us Bring Reliable Water to Puerto Rico’s Most Vulnerable Communities.

Puerto Rico is facing an official drought. Communities across the island are experiencing water rationing, while an aging and fragile water infrastructure is making an already difficult situation worse.

For many families, losing water is an inconvenience.

For an elderly person living alone, it can become a crisis.

At The Happy Givers, we serve hundreds of older adults in our communities every week. Right now, we have already identified more than 20 elderly people who are living without reliable running water.

Some receive water only intermittently. Some depend on neighbors. Some are carrying containers of water into their homes. Others have little or no running water at all.

We want (need) to change that.

OUR GOAL: $42,500

We are launching the Water Is Dignity Campaign to create immediate relief and long-term water security for the communities we serve.

Funds raised will help us:

- Install water cistern systems for at least 30 elderly households: With the support of partners who are already helping provide cisterns, we will expand the effort and cover the equipment, plumbing, electrical work, pumps, installation, and other infrastructure necessary to give vulnerable older adults a more reliable source of water at home.

- Build a new community well at our farm in Morovis: Our new farm and community center in Morovis is being developed as a hub for food production, community support, and emergency response. A dedicated well will provide a resilient water source for the farm and our programs while strengthening our ability to respond when surrounding communities lose access to water.

This is bigger than handing someone a case of bottled water. We want to build infrastructure that lasts.

A cistern means an elderly person can have water when the system fails. A pump means they don't have to carry buckets. A community well means that when the next drought, outage, or emergency comes, there is another source of water available.

WATER SHOULD NOT BE A LUXURY.

No elderly person should have to choose between bathing, cooking, cleaning, or saving the little water they have left to drink. No one should have to wonder whether water will come out when they turn on the faucet.
